Artificial Reef Project Sénégal | Reef cubes® Case Study | ARC marine
FISHERY ENHANCEMENT USING REEF CUBES®, BUILT BY LOCAL PEOPLE FOR LOCAL PEOPLE

Challenge
Coastal and offshore developments increasingly seek to deliver measurable biodiversity and community benefits alongside infrastructure investment. However, artificial reef projects are often constrained by high transport emissions, limited local involvement and designs that are poorly adapted to local environmental conditions.
For projects operating in emerging markets, there is a clear need for reef solutions that can be manufactured locally, delivered at scale and integrated efficiently, while supporting long-term ecological function and local economic participation.

Solution
ARC marine deployed its RIB (Reef cubes in a Box) system to enable in-country manufacture of artificial reef structures in Senegal. Using RIB, 403 Reef cubes® were produced with 15 locally employed personnel using regionally sourced materials, delivering reef structures suited to local physical and ecological conditions.
ARC marine delivered several key elements of the project workflow:
• Ecological baseline assessment
• Nature-Inclusive Design
• In-country manufacturing through RIB
• Installation guidance and offshore equipment
• Framework for long-term monitoring
The reef is now complete and has been designed to provide stable, complex habitat that supports fish populations and wider ecosystem recovery.
