Marine Matt

Our Marine Matts are built to protect key subsea cable and pipelines, whilst enhancing marine ecosystems, reducing marine plastics, and lowering CO2 emissions. Developed using nature inclusive design (NID) principles, the Marine Matt meets robust offshore construction requirements, helping your development to leave a positive marine legacy at an affordable price.

Carbon-neutral protection for subsea cables & pipelines

From scour prevention to sediment stabilisation, our Marine Matts are scientifically developed to create minimal impact to the seabed and surrounding habitats, whilst providing reliable and hard-wearing protection to your infrastructure.

No unnecessary additional material is added to the environment and Marine Matts provide the ideal sustainable solution for foundations, piles or revetments across marine sectors, whilst also tested to ensure they can withstand both natural and man-made impacts.

Marine Matts are fully customisable and start at a standard size of 6m*3m. They have a density of 2,100-2,300 kg/m3 and are specifically designed to be installed using industry-standard equipment. With no toxic or plastic components, the Marine Matt is an eco-friendly option to decommission in-situ subsea.

Testimonials

“Kier have been very satisfied and pleased with ARC Marine throughout the preconstruction and construction stages of the Newlyn Tidal R&D project. ARC Marine have fabricated and delivered exceptional Intertidal reef cube® ECO armour units for the project where all parties, including Kier, the Environment Agency and Atkins, have been very impressed with the quality of finish of the units. Overall a very exceptional service from ARC Marine and would highly recommend.”

Jack Walker, Site Agent / Chartered Engineer, Kier Infrastructure – Regional Civil Engineering

“reef cubes® is a unique product that could reach a massive global market. Marine-i has been proud to help ARC Marine develop and test their amazing new approach to marine conservation and in particular, its application to marine renewable energy. Their pioneering products have the potential to improve the health of our oceans for generations to come.”

Alex Whatley, University of Plymouth

"ARC Marine are providing 25% of the reef blocks for the Newlyn project. Their blocks offer multi-functional benefits, such as biodiversity enhancing design and low-carbon fabrication. The development of viable alternatives to carbon intensive and non-sustainable solutions such as reinforced concrete, or quarried rock, is hugely important in order to meet the EA’s organisational targets to achieve net zero by 2030. More broadly, decarbonisation of the coastal and subsea infrastructure industry will also provide an important contribution to wider UK pledges on climate change."

Justin Ridgewell, Coastal Advisor for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Environment Agency

“The idea of a carbon-neutral reef cube® that can be used to help rehabilitate reef ecosystems is exciting – we really need to do everything we can to give coral reefs a break”

Dr Sylvia Earle, National Geographic Explorer upon congratulating ARC Marine as an Ocean Impact Finalist, 2020.
