Offshore Energy Subsea Protection

SUSTAINABLE SUBSEA PROTECTION

Scale up your wind farm operation and meet environmental targets with marine-friendly, carbon-neutral subsea protection that reflects your clean energy credentials. As the world strives to lower carbon emissions, we’re offering sustainable plastic-free solutions that are so ocean safe they can stay below the waves indefinitely.

We’re here to help you protect your subsea infrastructure and create habitat for marine life with eco-engineered designs that help you to build with nature.

Wind Energy Scale-up

The subject of climate is under the spotlight like never before and countries across the world are setting ambitious renewable energy targets. A bold goal of deploying a wind operation capable of producing 30 GW of offshore energy by 2030 was set by the Biden-Harris administration. Meanwhile, in Europe wind energy is a mainstay of the EU goal to be climate-neutral by 2050, intending to reach 300 GW by then. Fixed and floating offshore wind is one of the fastest-growing energy markets in the world and with a global scale-up in the works, it is vital that we consider the environmental impact below the ocean’s surface.

ARC Marine is here to bring about a fresh generation of eco-friendly subsea protection mattresses and scour protection, all designed, manufactured and monitored by us. Our solutions not only provide rugged and hard-wearing protection for your assets, but they enhance marine ecosystems and are built using our carbon-neutral Marine Crete.

Scour Protection

We deliver sustainable, tough and marine-friendly scour protection that enhances biodiversity around your offshore projects. With a nature-inclusive design (NID) that’s scientifically backed, reef cubes® act as the perfect substrate for marine flora and fauna. They’re also fully scalable and modular with a choice of different sizes, meaning you can build and protect structures of any size.

Our scour protection is supported by the Reef Enhanced Scour Protection (RESP) R&D project. RESP is a two-year R&D project to develop, manufacture and deploy our reef cubes® around offshore wind farm monopiles at scale. Supporting sustainable growth in the offshore wind energy industry, the cubes are a carbon-neutral and plastic-free alternative to traditional scour protection which provides limited habitat capacity, high CO2 emissions and releases plastics into the marine environment.

Cable & Pipeline Protection

Our durable carbon-neutral subsea protection is built with NID principles. Marine Matts offer environmentally conscious solutions to scour prevention, dropped object protection, sediment stabilisation and more. They’re scientifically developed to create minimal impact on the seabed and surrounding habitats, whilst providing reliable and hard-wearing protection to your crucial cables and pipelines.

ARC Marine’s cable and pipeline protection is backed by an innovative research project, Nature Inclusive Cable Enhancement (NICE), that focuses on the use of NID in subtidal cable protection. Our Marine Matt offers a carbon-neutral alternative to traditional concrete mattresses, which typically require expensive and carbon-rich decommissioning.

Testimonials

“Kier have been very satisfied and pleased with ARC Marine throughout the preconstruction and construction stages of the Newlyn Tidal R&D project. ARC Marine have fabricated and delivered exceptional Intertidal reef cube® ECO armour units for the project where all parties, including Kier, the Environment Agency and Atkins, have been very impressed with the quality of finish of the units. Overall a very exceptional service from ARC Marine and would highly recommend.”

Jack Walker, Site Agent / Chartered Engineer, Kier Infrastructure – Regional Civil Engineering

“reef cubes® is a unique product that could reach a massive global market. Marine-i has been proud to help ARC Marine develop and test their amazing new approach to marine conservation and in particular, its application to marine renewable energy. Their pioneering products have the potential to improve the health of our oceans for generations to come.”

Alex Whatley, University of Plymouth

"ARC Marine are providing 25% of the reef blocks for the Newlyn project. Their blocks offer multi-functional benefits, such as biodiversity enhancing design and low-carbon fabrication. The development of viable alternatives to carbon intensive and non-sustainable solutions such as reinforced concrete, or quarried rock, is hugely important in order to meet the EA’s organisational targets to achieve net zero by 2030. More broadly, decarbonisation of the coastal and subsea infrastructure industry will also provide an important contribution to wider UK pledges on climate change."

Justin Ridgewell, Coastal Advisor for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Environment Agency

“The idea of a carbon-neutral reef cube® that can be used to help rehabilitate reef ecosystems is exciting – we really need to do everything we can to give coral reefs a break”
