Reef mat - Offshore Concrete Mattress for Cable & Pipeline Protection

Reef mat is a low-carbon articulated concrete mattress system engineered as a full-scale subsea protection solutionfor offshore cable and pipeline stabilisation, seabed consolidation and scour protection. Built to the same functional and handling standards as conventional industry mattresses, it delivers equivalent structural performance while introducing a new focus on sustainability and biodiversity enhancement.

Completely plastic-free and made using ARC marine’s Marine Crete technology, each Reef mat provides the same weight, density and deployment efficiency as standard subsea protection systems. It offers added weight and stabilisation, impact protection from dropped objects and gear interaction, and proven durability in high-energy environments. Reef mat stands apart through its Nature-Inclusive Design (NID) and 3D-printed surface textures that promote marine life colonisation.

Reef mat uses steel-wire reinforcement instead of polypropylene rope (with further sustainable alternatives in development) and avoids plastics entirely, including in its coatings. Its ecologically informed surface structure encourages the growth and sheltering of local species such as fish, crustaceans, corals and kelp, delivering consistent, repeatable ecological performance at scale.
